Tlie Director of the Meteorological Office in a summary of the weather during April states that the month opened with dull, misty and foggy weather, with the linrumeher reading about normal in all parts of the Dominion. Without a change in this respect a deluge of rain fell in several parts of the North Island on April 3rd. A newspaper reported that the river I’uhoi rose sixteen feet in an hour. There were also heavy falls of rain in Taranaki. Waihi. and Auckland, and along the Wanganui River. Further heavy falls took place between the Ith. and Bth. when the harnmeter was at its highest. 30.58 inches. At Wellington fair weather prevailed l'or n short time, but the barometer fell smartly in the south on the Kith, and showery conditions followed in West Coast and southern districts until the I Ith. Variable breezes and fair though somewhat changeable skies were experienced until the 22m1. when a westerly storm area made its appearance, bringing heavy rain in Westland and Otago. ■Rainy weather followed in the northnext day with strong northerly winds. \ rather sudden but mild snntherly on the 21th. accounted for a temporary improvement, hut the closing days of the month were unsettled and stormy. especially in and southwards of Cook Strait. The rainfall was generally above the average, hut deficient in North Canterbury, and the temperature was mild for the season.

The personnel of the Commission which is to eni|uiry into the railwaymens' grievances and the administration of ji New Zealand Railways system, has not yet been decided upon. To-day. the .Minister for Railways. Mr J. G. Coates, and the Manager. Mr R. \V. MeYilly. and other officers again conferred with the representatives of the Executive of the A.S.R.fb The Minister stated to-night that the commission will he set up as soon as it can lie accomplished.
AN IN DEI ENT ACT. WELLINGTON. May 7. Ei-auk Arnold Hill, a middle aged man, convicted ol indecently interfering with two girls at a local picture show, was sentenced to twelve months hard labour. The judge said that, though there was no violence, one never knew what might ensue. The public must lx- protected.
