The following reply has been received from the Prime Minister, the Rl. Hon. W. F. Massey, with reference to the resolution condemning the strike, passed hv the Borough Council: --“George Perry, Fsq., Mayor of Hokitika.—Many thanks for your telegram transmitting resolution passed hv Borough Council regarding recent railway difficulty, which you will have seen has now come to an end. Those who made tin* overland trip during the strike period are not likely to forget tlioii- experiences on tlio journey. Those who essayed the trip this week seemed to tare worst ot all, though those travelling last week ware not without excitin'! experiences and much discomfort and delay. Cars which left Christchurch on Monday reached Castle Hill only, and were forced to return. On Tuesday the journey was recommenced, and the llealev was reached, when there was another holdup. At the Healey earlier parties had disposed of most of the supplies, and the weather was too had to obtain further food. The travellers were all on short commons, bread even being missing. There were four car loads in all and as the inn was not equal to the accommodation required, shakedowns in all quarters were requisitioned. It was a night of oeneral discomfort and inconvenience. Yesterday the cars were attain unable to cross the rit’cr, but it was cleaned over the phono the strike was off, and that a woods train was maltin'! its way to Otir.u. This train was intercepted near the Cass, after a rough trip in the cars back from Healey, and then the party hoarded th” guards van, and ultimately reached Otira late in the evening. Cars wore available there, and at an early hour this morning the Hokitika passengers reached home. The Coast passengers for Christchurch who had been held up at Otira yesterday boarded a mixed train for Christchurch, where they would arrive late last night. Overland passengers have certainly to he thankful that the railway strike is over*
