Without a growth in the spirit of Nationalism it was inevitable that the Federal National Ministry' would go out. Labour would have to win very few seats in the Senate at next election to have a majority that would make it almost impossible for a Nationalist Ministry to earr.v on, even with a majority in the House of Representatives. THE OIL FIRE ADELAIDE. April 28. The fire on the “City of Singapore” is practically extinguished. The damage is estimated at over £250,000. The opinion is expressed that the vessel will never leave Adelaide, as it would cost as much to repair her as to build a new ship. CREW GIVE NOTICE TO LEAVE. (Received this day at 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY April, 29. Nine members of the crew of the steamer Karoola gave notice yesterday to terminate their engagement. The move of the men is regarded seriously ill view of the fact that the steamer Katoomha of the same line was laid up a fortnight ago owing to no crew being obtainable. The management hopes to replace the Karoola’s men to-day. YEARLING SALES. SYDNEY, April 30. At the yearling sales, one hundred and eleven animals were sold, realising 15,777) guineas. On account of lan Duncan (New Zealand) a fonh-Deri-iiin colt brought two hundred and forty guineas, a Boniforni-Vicer-sine filly, six hundred, a BoniformPliiloniel filly-, two hundred and sixty-, a Boniform-Peirenc filly, five hundred, a Boiiil’orm-Aloha filly throe hundred and fifty. This was the best average of the day. VICTORIAN POLITICS. MELBOURNE, Apirl 30. Following upon the decision of the Country Party to nominate L Bowser, a former Premier for the Speakership, a crisis has arisen which it is expected will result in a dissolution of the State Parliament. The new Ministry was swonvjjiii on Monday, and the House met yesterday, but the appointment of a Speaker was not considered. To-day-the first business will be the election of a. Speaker, ami it is considered Mr Lawson’s chances of being chosen have gone, unless the Labour Party unexpectedly supports him. In the event of his defeat as the Government nominee, it is almost certain the decision will he regarded as a no-confidence vote, and a dissolution will follow.
