CUNARDER RENAMED
LONDON, February 20. Because not a few passengers stumbled over the pronunciation of the name of the Cunard liner Tvrrhenia and said, when booking passages, “I want to sail in that new ship. You know—the one with the funny name." the company have renamed the vessel Lancastria. Tec ship’s company pronounce the name “Tio-rbimiia,” the Liverpool shore stuff ‘Tie-rlienia", hut some people stress the first syllable, pronouncing it •‘Tnrr.” When the ship was in the Hamburg. Now York service the crew called lier the “Try-nnd-niin-you,” because of the exorbitant demands on them of Cerman .shopkeepers. The company have paid Lancashire a compliment for hitherto the names of their 29 vessels in the Atlantic and Mediterranean services have been taken from the old Latin or Greek designations of Continental countries. Lusitania, for Portugal, was a part of ancient Spain; Tyrrhenia, or Etruria, the district of Italy roughly corresponding to the modern Tuscany. The crew of the Hull trawler Tanjoro which was lost in the North Sea on Monday, arrived at Hull yesterday. According to a statement made by t skipper, the trawler was sunk by the explosion of a rocket when finishing with the Red Cross Fleet in the North Sea. While rockets were being fired to attract the attention V>f the fleet’s cutter, the stick over the fuse of one of them fell, and the head of the stick exploded before reaching the water. As a result the plates of the trawler were smashed and the vessel filled quickly with water. The crew were picked up by another tjn'vlcr.
