RUNANGA ROAD RACE. GREYMOUTH, April 20. The road race Jield at Runanga at the week-end proved the most interesting held there this season. The course covered was a distance of nine and a-half miles from Runanga to Kapahoe and return, two circuits being made. Blirnard and Henderson, of Christchurch, who started off the lflsec. and scratch marks respectively, assisted to draw a very large crowd. Twentythrce competitors faced the starter. The finish saw a great contest, Turtill getting home by half a wheel. A. G. Turill (30sec) 1 McPhee (3min. 30sec.) 2 L. Wilson (30see.) 3
Turtill also secured fastest time, covering the distance in 28min. while Wilson took five seconds and Henderson seven seconds longer. MOTOR AND CYCLE RACES ,GREYMOUTH, April 19. Fine weather favoured the Greymouth Motor-Cycle Club for its inaugural sports meeting. The track was in good order, but cut up badly at the turns towards the end of the programme. There was a large attendance of the public, who derived keen enjoyment from the exhibition of speed provided. The following were the results:— Novice Motor Handicap, 3 miles:— C. Neville, 5-6 Indian (ssec) 1 : A. G. Turtill, 4 Douglas (lOscc) 2 ; J. James, 5-6 Indian (scr.) 3. Nine started. Won pulling up. Time -1.7 1-5. Novice Cycle Race, .1 mile:—M. Tainui 1, A. A. Cook 2, W. Barrowman 3. Seventeen started. Tainni came away in the straight and won easily Time 2.32 4-s,sec. TeH'cinakau Motor Handicap, 5 miles:—C. Neville, 5-6 Indian (4(>sec.) F. Preston, 4 Douglas (-l')sec) 1; S. F. S. F. White, 5-6 Harley Davidson (30see) 3. Ten started. Time 7.25 4-5 secs. 1 Cycle Dash Handicap.—Turtill 1. Barnard 2. Gooch 3. Won by a wheel. Time 1.3 1-5. Groymoutli Motor Cun. 6 miles:— F .Preston, 4 Douglas (40sce) 1 ; S. .I''. While, 5-6 Harley Davidson (35see) 2; A.White. 5-6 Harley Davidson (35sec) 3. Eleven competed. Won by 50 yards. The winner was fined £2 for cureless riding. Easter Wheel Handicap.—A. G. I urtill (110yds) 1; H. Barnard (syds) 2; L. Wilson (130yds) 3. Eighteen started. Won by half a wheel.
