MADAME GOWER-BURNS
CONCERT OX TUESDAY. -Madame Gower-Burns, the New Zealand Queen of Kong, who is appearing at the Westland Opera House imi Tuesday, with her brilliant company, has the unique distinction of being one of the very few, if not the only one in New Zealand, to receive a command to appear before Royalty. Madame Gower-Burns, when singing a a special function tendered to Mon•signeur f'ereati, the Apostolic Delegate at Christchurch, was complimentod upon her singing, and in her operatic work in jiarticular, and lie mentioned ill? fact that her Italian was perfect; in fact, for the time being, lie fell finite at home in his native Italy. Associated with her is Mr Arthur Gordon, a voimg man of exceptional ability as a violinist. Mr Gordon has the distinction of being the only violinist in Australia and New Zealand, who has appeared as "a soloist at tho Vatican before the present Pope. Mr Harold Prescott, the tenor of the party, is particularly well known on the West Coast. It is a fact that at the present time there is no better tenor in New Zealand. Mr Bernard the baritone of the party, has a robust pleasing style, and captivates his admirers directly he appears upon the platform. .Madame Bussell, the solo pianist and accompanist, is favourable known throughout New Zealand.
