News was received yesterday from Dunedin of the ratlier sudden death of Mr Sydney Burton, surveyor, in the employ of the Survey Department. Mr Burton was well-known here and in South Westland, where he was engaged for some years on district survey work. He was married to the second daughter of Mrs J. Moore of Fitzhcrbert Street, uqd Dr. Clove -Moore of Greynioutli is a. brother-in-law. The late Mr Burton visited Hokitika last Clnistmas renewing old acquaintances. Since his return to Otago, he has been engaged in his professional work up country, and it was while in the field last week he had a stroke. The attack was a severe one, and although he leceived all possible attention, he failed to rally and died early yesterday morning. His wife and a young son survive him. To Mrs Burton and son and all relatives every sympathy will he extended. Mr Burton we.- of a genial disposition and well liked on all sides. He was very capable at his profession, and has carried out several important surveys in both Westland and Otago.
