Fleeting Desires. 'i ne American Constitution lays down that everyone is entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is true that all are free to pursue this desi. c of their heart, but no one lias as yet supplied the formula by which its capture can be 'made sure. And it it Ire grasped it cannot be held. It is vain to plead, as Faust-: “Stay, stay, thou art so fair.” The personal happiness so eagerly sought proves but a bubble, a gathered poppy, a snowflake on the river.
