LORD AVEMYSS MENTIONED. BY TELEGRAM—PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. LONDON, March 3. Several prominent journals, including the “Naval and Military Record,” give publicity to the accompanying statement, under the heading “Lord Jellicoo’s Retirement Rumoured.”
“Although no official announcement has hec-n made, it is understood that Lord Jellieoe intends to retire from the Governor-Generalship of New Zealand towards the end of this year. Rumours have been current for some time that the distinguished Admirul-of-the-rleet. who was (54 last December, is to vacate his position this year, and in service circles not only is this now assumed to he correct, but the name of Lord Wester AA'enivss, who is also an Admiral-of-the-Fleet and a former First Sea Lord, is being mentioned as his successor. Lord AVemyss. who was Commodore of'the R.N. Barracks, Devonport, <in 1911-42, performed distinguished services during the war, and wa-■ created first Baron of AAemyss in 1919.”
