ACT NOT TO BE EXTENDED. ’ LONDON, April 0 In the Commons, in reply to questions, Mr Sidney Webb stated tho Government had decided not to introduce legislation for tile, extension of the duration of the provisions of part two of the Safeguarding of Industries Act, providing duties to meet the case of depreciated currencies, which, accordingly, will lapse on the 10th of August. Tho Government had carefully considered the report of the Committee recommending a duty of 33 1-3 per cent on lace, embroidery and silk, but did not proposo._to ask! Parliament to impose the duties. BRONCO BUSTING CRUEL. LONDON, April 9. In the Commons, Lady Terringtou in alleging that cowboy contests were cruel, urged that steer roping ami bronco busting should not he allowed at Wembley. Mr Lilli said he had consulted the Canadian High Commissioner who saw no objections to the contests which were held to promote the cowboys’ efficiency. Oil the present information he could not object to the display, but the Government had power to intervene in the event of cruelty.
