WESTLAND RACING CLUB
Ti,e Committee of the above Club met last evening at 9.15 o’clock. Present:—Messrs W. E. Williams (President), Mclntosh, McGregor, Adamson, Wliiley,' Keller, Yarrall, Houston, Sellers, I’enke and Evans. The list of nominations for the autumn race meeting to be held on the Hokitika racecourse on Easter Wednesday was received as very satisfactory. The entries total 110. This number is slightly less than last year, Tint there are more horses engaged. Several of the events have filled exceedingly well, and there is the promise of a good
meeting. The Secretary reported the usual preliminary arrangements for the meeting were in hand. The Railway Depnitment had granted a good train service in and out of Hokitika on race day, enabling patrons on the Westland railway section to visit the meeting, and return home the same evening. The hand had been engaged, and Afrs C. A. Pnrkhill had kindly agreed to supervise the refreshment rooms for the meeting, The sale of rights (publicans’ booths and sweets stall) would take place on Saturday afternoon at the Princess Theatre.
Mr Gorton had been appointed Stipendiary Steward for the race meeting, and All' Tillysliort would Le the Racecourse Inspector. Racing dates for next season were approved as heretofore, and ordered to lie submitted to the Racing Conference through the District- Racing Committee.
The Chairman intimated the approaching visit of Air N. R. Sellers, Secretary of the Racing Conference, and the hope was expressed the visitor would have an enjoyable stay on the Coast. Mr Sellers has stated he will attend the local race meeting. The matter of introducing the I.os totalisator for the forthcoming meeting was introduced, and discussed at some length. Several members spoke in favor of the proposal in the interests of the public. The opposition raised to the proposal was in the interests of the Club. The returns, it was said, so far had been satislactory. and it was not considered politic to change the policy. A motion to affirm the proposal was not seconded, and was then, withdrawn, and finally no action was taken.
