Main Highways Expenditure. The announcement that the Government viiW take over the Horokiwi-Par-kaka riki road and the Rimutaka bill section of the Wellington-Muster toil road, will be welcomed by motorists, and should likewise give satisfaction to ratepayers. The Government has already expended nearly £40,000 on these sections of road; and now it is more likely to further improve them, whereas their adequate maintenance in 4 heir present state would he impossible to the counties concerned out of the < -isting rates.
