VUSXIIALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION ’VARSITY BOAT RACE. LONDON, April 5. The University boat race was rowed in sunshine with the lightest northeasterly breeze blowing. The water was smooth. Cambridge won the toss and chose the Surrey station. Oxford, rowing slightly the faster stroke, led at the start, lnit at the mile post Cambridge wore slightly ahead. The time here was 4.4. The Cantabs, rowing beautifully, held a length advantage at Hammersmith Bridge, which was reached in 7.36 and they had a three lengths lead at Chiswick Church, the time there being 11.28. Soon after this Oxford spurted and gained on the leaders, but they were ragged in their work. Cambridge made Barnes Bridge in 15.31, with a lend of two and a half lengths, and ultimately they won bv four and a half lengths. The official time was 18 mins Ilsees.
