Both were removed to the hospital in a serious condition, being too weak to supply any details, beyond a statement by Mrs Dodds. The reason for their condition was explained in a letter she bad written. A bloodstained table knife and a blacksmith's hammer were found in the house, and also a rambling S-iftnsignecl statement, addressed to the doctor mentioning that a doctor onto told her it was better to commit suicide than bring a curse on another life.
