LABOUR’S POLICY.

LONDON, April 1

The Government's intention to carry out the Labour policy of no secret treaties was announced in the House Commons by Rt. lion. Mr Ponsonhy. in moving the second reading of the Treaty of Pence with Turkey Bill. He stated that the Government intended to lay every treaty when signed, on the table of both Houses 21 days before their ratification. The publication of important treaties could be discussed if desired. Thus secret treaties would he rendered impossible (Ministerial cheers). The Government would also inform the House of all agreements which mgilit in any way hind the nation to specified action in certain circumstances.

HON. WHEATLEY’S NEW BIIJ.. LONDON, April 1. The anti-Labour press lobby correspondents scents a possible crisis over the Hon.. Mr Wheatley’s, the Health Minister’s new Government Bill for preventing tenants who arc not paying rent from being evicted if they arc out of work. The I act that the Bill purposes to relieve those who are workless of an obligation to pay rent caused a sensation in the lobby. Even some members of the Labour Party fear that Mr Wheatley’s proposals go too far, especially as it is reported that the Cabinet had not seen the text of the Bill before it was tabled. The critics of the bill point out that it gives unemployed tenants the right to live rent free, though members of their family may ho employed or tho house bo sublet. Sir W. Joynson Hicks and Mr Neville Chamberlain tabled an amendment, declining to throw the burden of relief of unemployment upon a section of the community.
