THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Tin: Unknown. Because a thing has happened often wo assume that it. must always happen. Within human memory the sun has risen once every twenty-iour hours therefore it will always do so. But “time” as we know it is only a fleeting moment in the endless march of eternity, and our knowledge is. alter all, empirical. In the last resort, we have no means of checking it. Let us take an analogy. There are insects which live only tor a few hours. Let us suppose that one of these is endowed with reason and comes to life upon a bright sunny day. Because the sun shines throughout his span he would argue that this is a permanent condition of existence. Is it not possible that our so-called laws of nature rest upon as transient a foundation.
