LUXOR STATUES.

V'ALLEY OV THE KINGS, Jan. 20 Steady progress has been made in the laboratory with the treatment and preparation for transport of the objects removed from the various chambers of King Tut-ankh Amen’s tomb. Tile two guardian statues, life-size figures, are of wood, 'they have gilded headdresses, aprons, armlets, anklets, maces, staves, and sandals. The gold work had blistered and cracked owing to the shrinkage of the wood underneath Lie gesso, the sui~ face cracks were in most cases very small, and this rendered it most difficult to deal with these cavities, but the problem was solved by skilfully adapting the melted paraffin-wax method already adopted for other fragile objects. A splendid job has boon made of these figures as the result. All cavities in headdress and apron have been completely filled—the head-dresses have become inside one solid mass of wax.
