Ah' important question relating to motor .traffic/ arisiiig out of the passdug of by-laws- by the Hawke’s Bay County Council, was brought under tho/notieb of the Minister of Internal affairs by a deputation representing taxi proprietors and firms concerned in motor vehicle trarfsjjort.

The deputatou was introduced by Mr M’Kav, M.E., ..who said it was contended that the bye-laws would he quite inequitable in their operation. Besides that,'there-was no doubt in the minds' of those interested in the motor traffic as to liow-they might, in addition, bo taxed by other local bodies.

One speaker said the imposition of a license fee of £4O, as was proposed by certain local bodies, should be delayed until general- legislation relating to motor traffic was dealt with by Parliament. The 'Master Carriers’ Association intended to make representations to! the Government and to Parliament on the general subject. In their opinion there should be one amount to pay, find that fee should, enable 'motor vehicles to operate for a considerable distance. ,

* The Hon. R. F. Bollard, said lie sympathised to a great extent with the request of the deputation. Several of the points which had been brought underhis notice would require consideration. He wpuld consult the Minister of Public -Works and see what the Government could do in the way of doing justice to those concerned hi-motor vehicle’-traf-fic. The whole question,, would, of course, come before Parliament - pext. session/; He was pleased to hear those iou,ej?r‘ned say that they 1 ' reeogrtiseef that they should pay, something. Everyone was of course; entitled.'to a fair deal; and lie would do his host to see that jvs.ti.t-c was done.' He "» thought those eoncerngil would find '.that nil equitable decision would be coipe to.
