SAME PAY AS 50 YEARS AGO.
LONDON. Feb. 5. Registrars of births, marriages, and deaths throughout the country hate been dissatisfied recently with their status and remuneration. Now a Bill is in flic* hands of the authorities at Somerset House, and marriage officials are hoping that it will come before Parliament this session. , , The object of this Bill is to place registrars on a salary basis, the salaries being met by the Treasury under the estimates of the Ministry of Health. Marriage fees would then go to the Treasury. At present registrars do not receive salary, but are dependent on the fees paid for marriages and the registration of births and deaths. Tees are the same to-day as.they were 50 years a ,»o. and from them in London and large suburban residential districts, registras make about £2OO to £3OO a vear. _
