R.S.A. BAZAAR.

PRELIMINARIES ARRANGED

The President of tho local branch of the ICS.A. (Mr Evans) presided at a meeting of ladies and gentlemen at the Soldiers’ Hall last evening for the purpose of arranging preliminaries in connection with the monster bazaar in about three months’ time for the purpose of raising funds for the club-room buildings t be erected in front of the hall, facing Sewell Street. The Chairman explained that it was proposed to hold an Empire Bazaar in the Soldiers’ Hall opening on Monday, June 30th., and being continued for about five nights. In addition to the hall, the present annexe would be

used for side-shows and refreshments. In the hall itself a stage would be erected and performances given nightly. There was tho offer of some Christchurch talent in addition to local support, so that novel and distinctive programmes could bo arranged for each evening. In front of the hall a temporary entrance would be made and further accommodation provided for other side shows and novelties. There would he four main stalls in the hall, and goods etc. could he obtained on satisfactory lines from the Returned Soldiers’ Associations in Christchurch, Wanganui and Auckland. In addition it was proposed to ask the ladies to form working bees in the interval before the bazaar. The movement would he organised on a considerable scale, as a substantial effort was called for to raise £IOOO for the work proposed, and in order to have the clubrooms available as soon as possible. After a general discussion Mr Bain moved that the proposal he adopted,

and those present with power to add to their number he appointed a general committee of management. Mrs Benjamin rose and seconded the motion. which was carried. The, following constituted the general committee: Miss Davidson. Mesdainos Benjamin, Rutland, Morgan. I’arkhill, Lynn, Messrs Evans. Rain, Rnrkhiil. Kerr. Moore, Tinihicll, Aldridge, Morgan and Paterson. Ladies and gentlemen willing to join the general Committee are desired to hand in their names to any member of the Committee. .Messrs Rain and Paterson were appointed lion secretaries to the Bazaar Movement. It was resolved to convene a meeting of ladies for 3.30 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon next, to arrange in regard to working bees. It was decided to ascertain what could he done regarding a temporary front annexe by putting in the permanent foundation for the new building, and a temporary floor for the bazaar period. The question of stall holders was left over to the. ladies’ meeting, when the national Empire names for the four stalls will he selected, and groups of ladies appointed to each. Various suggestions to add to the attractions of the big bazaar were mentioned. and will lw considered in further

detail at next meeting. As flic Club will he jointly a soldier and civilian club, it was resolved to canvass for civilian members at an entrance fee of £1 to go towards the building fund this year, the annual subscription to hi* fixed later at a general meeting when the scope* of the. Club is more fully explained. Tli.* meeting which took up the whole project most enthusiastically, adjourned at 8.1.5 till next week.

Subsequently a meeting ol the Entertainment Committee was held to decide wliat should he done with regard to continuing the work of the H.S.A. Minstrels in reference to I elping lo raise funds fur Hie completion of the Soldiers’ Hall. Mr 1.. Aldridge presided. Tfc was resolved that the lion, secretary (Mr -I. Timbrel!) write lor copies of suitable comedies for local production. to bo given in conjunction with a revue entertainment by the Minstrels. When a choice is made in regard to the piece to he produced, a cast, will he selected, and rehearsals will be pul in band at one-.
