AMUSEMENTS.

“LIGHTS OF NEW YORK.” THURSDAY. On Thursday “The Rights of New York” will he shown for one night only at the Princess llieatre. YtTllinm Fox has treated this photoplay in a novel and interesting manner. A typical O. Henry story, “Lights of New York” tells not one continuous story, lint two, and in the form that motion picture patrons love host. Each episode, alter dealing with a series of more than not, grim incidents that bring shudders and .sober reflection end in a happy fashion. Most lurid and tragic of all the situations, the first episode turns out. much to one relief, to he the nightmare of a guilty and distempered bruin. The author, however, puts his point over, and while we shudder at the scene and feel the thrills running down our hack, we are relieved to know that it is only a. dream. Critics have called “Lights of New York” a great photoplay and their verdict lias been endorsed by audiences everywhere. Featured in the east is ■Mare MacDcrmott, whose interpretation is classed among the strongest characterisations the screen has ever offered. Another of the actors is Charles Gerard, long known as the greatest villain in motion pictures. The photoplay is said to be of a high standard, containing several exceptional colored shots of the city. Charles J. Brnbiu directed the production. Mr Bra hi ii is responsible for the AViliiam Fox story of New York life. ‘‘While New Y ork Slecns,” which scored a remarkable success. The latest Topieals and a two-reel comedy will complete a fine programme. The orchestra will play several new selections and usual prices will he charged.
