CRICKET.

GATE TAKINGS AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, March 24. The treasurer of the Auckland Cricket Association is revelling in tho novel sensation of having handled the finances of a big cricket game without having to worry about a debit balance, thanks to tho patronage accorded tho game on Saturday afternoon by the public. His tusk was to get in £450 to cover the association’s guarantee of £3OO and expenses. On Friday the cash takings at the gate brought in a little over £IOO, and a combination of line weather and wide public interest did the rest on Saturday, when the takings amounted to £354. There is still a little more to come in for tickets sold before the game, so that it is expected that the association will lie able to baud over a credit balance of a few pounds to the New Zealand Council. The takings to date are £156 16s 6d.

Incidentally the takings on Saturday indicate that the crowd was larger than had been estimated, for the cash shows that close on 7000 people paid their way in at the gate, while it is officially held that the holders of tickets bought beforemufd would raise the attendance figure to nearly 8000. .MACARTNEY ON DOAIINION CRICKET.
