There should be a goodly clearance of the material for sale. From twenty-six applicants scattered over the civilised globe, Mr Geoffrey Sylvester Peren has been appointed to the new chair of agriculture at Victoria University College, at Wellington, called into being by the munificence of Sir Walter Buchanan. The chair rests on his endowment of £IO,OOO. Mr Peren. who is a Canadian is at present holding an important position in England. The Borough Council is carrying out • considerable work about the town of late, and the effect on the streets and footpaths is becoming noticeable. There is a considerable scheme in hand affecting many of the streets which in a comparatively short time will be improved greatly. Weld Street is now receiving attention. Fitzherbert Street is to follow. Already some good work has lieen done in Hampden, Street Another section of the Sale Street drain is also being pnt in hand. Dance! Dance!! The Mayor of Wellington (Mr R. A. Wright), in connection with the vacancy caused by the death of the city engineer (Mr W. H. Morton), has given notice to call for applications in Great Britain, Australia and Mew Zealand for the position at a salary of £I2OO rising to a maximum of £ISOO.
Mr Erick Scott, brakesman at Stockton, met with a serious accident on Monday. He was uncoupling a truck during shunting operations, when the accident occurred. His shoulder was bruised and right arm broken above the elbow. After the arm was set, Mr Scott was brought in to Westport Hospital.
There was a lively meeting at Cobden last night to form a new Domain Board arising out of rivalry between the Rugby and League football ■ factions, the old Board having granted the League the sole use of Cobden Domain for the season. Messrs H. Bright, T. Gilmer, J. Beaumont, C. Gunn and J, Jeffries were elected. That the majority of those present were Rugby supporters was apparent, as when a motion was moved by Mr C. Saunders that the new Board honour any obligations which the old Board had entered upon, it was defeated. It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the incoming Board to vest the Domain Board in the Town Board.
