Railway Profits. Speaking at Wellington to the Commercial Travellers, Mr Massey said:— “The railways were now earning 3;J per cent, and no one should expect them to earn more. Before long they should be able to reduce fares and carriage fees, as they also .hoped to reduce taxation. He was not making any promises in this connection. They had to see how the accounts turned out.”
