FRIDAY-, MARCH 14th. The Council met at 7.30 p.m. Present- Messrs G. .A. Perry (Mayor), J. King, I). J. Evans, AY Jeffries, R. F. Pet-ham, AY. D. Me.ckay, G. Heinz, H. M. Coulson and G. A. A\ r ood. The minutes were confirmed, and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

Mr Evans said there may he other conditions in the judgment which may affect the Borough very seriously. He moved that consideration be deferred till the result of the enquiry came to hand. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and cat ried.

From Department of Health asking a requisition re necessary improvements be served on a house owner.—Received , attended to. Fees for month CG< I Is Col - OVERSEER’S REPORT. ; hog to submit tlie following report on work done during the past month as follows : Hampden Street has boon filled and gravelled at the Railway Crossing between Filzhorbert and Sewell Streets, and only requires a light coating oi bench shingle to make a good surface and improve the grade. Cemetery Hill Road lias been gravelled water tables cleaned out and growth cut. The North Boundary' road and Spencer's Street have been gravelled and blackberry and gorse cut on both, also Sewell and Tudor Streets. Stafford Street from Cass Square to tee boundary has been attended to, motor worn boles filled with metal, and blinded with gravel. AYater tables in parts of Fitzherbert Street have been cleaned and down pipes improved.

During the month three men have beet.- continuously employed making concrete pieps and there are now enough to complete Sale Street drain as far as Hampden Street. Three new connections have been made with the water service to private residences, and leaks stopped in Hampden, Sewell, Fitzberbert, Brittan and other Streets. The usual street cleaning and maintenance work has also been attended to during the month. -Received. TENDERS. Tenders for the completion of Sale Street drain were received from the following: Brown and Marks £420. Newman and Thorpe £522 10s. J. Walsh and party £413. The tender of Brown and Marks was act Pitted. Mr G, Wood stated ho purposed visit—iitr England and asked for leave of a bsence. Mr Evans moved that leave of absence be granted and that lie he provided. with an open introductory letter from the Council which would probably pi ore of decided advantage. Seconded by Air Coulson and carried. .Mr Coulson was appointed Chairman of tne Library Committee and Air Evans Chairman of Reserves, during the absence of Alt- AA’ood. Afr Coulson reported, that when in Wellington lie had waited on the AfSnist •'■ of Health in reference to tlie proposals for an improved drainage scheme, ar.d the cost or same, and the Alinistcr i ( plied stating lie would lie quite prope roil to accept the proposals of the Council if made in any reasonable manner.—Report received and it was tcsmved to thank the Minister for the reception and favorable reply given to ihc Council’s representative Air Evans moved:—“That the Inspector wait upon the owners anil occupiers of sections not sufficiently fenced, or where the fence >s dilapidated and unsightly, and request attention to same, and failing due attention within a reasonable time the Council take steps pursuant to Section 202 ol “The Aftinicipal Corporations Act” to require tlio owner to fence to the satisfaction of the Council: the Inspector to report in due course on action taken by him ill this matter.” Seconded by Air Coulson supported by Messrs Jeffries and Alackay and e* 1 riled. Mr Coulson referred to motor traffic in the vicinity of the schools and urg--1 that steps be taken to erect wattling Homes, It. was resolved to write to the local Automobile Association on the matter. Seconded by Air Derham a.no carried. Mr Evans moved : “That the Inspector patrol the ocean beach a: frequent intervals for the purpose of taking all necessary steps to prevent the deposit of rubbish etc., and in all known instances, he authorised to prosecute offenders without further instructions.” Seconded by Mr Wood and carried. The Council rose at 3.30 p.m.
