AMERICAN ITEMS.

[by TELKCRAI’H —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLIZZARD SWEEPS U.S.A. NEW YORK, March 11 The worst blistraard for 33 years struck the United States to-day, sweeping the country for its full' breadth and length, and isolating many cities from the outer world. It is leaving wreckage in its path, and taking a large toll of human life, the extent whereof it is impossible yet to estimate. Five persons were killed here, and also many injured in several other cities. Several cities are under a depth of four to six feet of snow. Tlte meteorologists describe the" storm as a great cyclone, which originated in the Gulf of Mexico, sweeping the Atlantic Coast northward upon tut 80-mile gale, which was spreading westward as it progressed, and carrying sleet, rain and snow. Wireless aerials wore destroyed, the naval wireless communications ceasing. The fleets in the eastern waters are out of touch. Freezing temperatures followed everywhere. Baltimore is behoved to have suffered the largest property losses. The capital was without fire protection, duo to the derangement of the alarm system. FAKE DOCTORS. NEW YORK. March 11 According to a Hartford message, the first conviction and imprisonment from a fake physicians’ investigation occurred when a so-called doctor, who administered four cans of ether in an operation requiring the amputation of a linger, received a sentence of six months for manslaughter. The patient had died from the anaesthetic, as cabled on November 21. The sentence would have been

heavier, but mercy was shown because (he prisoner confessed, furnishing the authorities with valuable details of the method of operation of Kansas City .Medical College, whereby thousands of ignorant, and conscienceless moil received diplomas for a cash consideration .

The authorities have begun a search for the convicted doctor’s classmates, the names of whom he furnished, and who are now residing in many States.
