A serious accident happened at Harikari on Monday afternoon to Volin Ilowat, the If) year old son of Mr James Hi wat of Arthurstown. It appear* the two brothers, Colin and Archibald, in the bush, were engaged in cutting tmihor for a contract tor the Harihari dairy factory when an axe wielded by Am hie struck the left hand of Colin, erinpletely severing the two smallest fingers and part of the hone of the hand. The wound tiled profusely. The sufferer was at once given temporary attention, and was then brought up to Westland Hospital for attention, arriving in a state of cohdpse. Next morning the hand was operated on and it is now hoped to save the remaining rwr fingers and thumb, the young man is progressing as well as can Ire expected under the circumstances.
