The chief demands are the only unionist actors can he employed in any production. This means that although managers can produce plays with nou-l nion actors. every one of the more than 100 legitimate theatres in New York will he compelled to close their doors, because virtually all the prominent actors are Equity members, and no production could he successful without them. New York, which with London shares the honours of being the largest of the world’s centres of dramatic production. is threatened with being plavless. since the managers declare that they will not accede to the actors demands.
