Radium and Cancer.

A winning against too great diffusion of elfort in the provision radium institutes for treatment of cancer was issued by a leading New Zealand authority, who at present is in Auckland attending the Medical Uc nforeiice. He ■‘-aid there were already proposals afoot to establish radium institutes at Auckland. Wellington, Dunedin and -Wanganui. to have an many institutes all working independently would not only he unnecessary and wasteful. Iml it would prevent that cuncoulratiou ol study that would he possible in a ceil Lull, highly efficient hospital. A suggestion had been made that ,dl* hospital hoards at the coming conference should decide in what wav New Zealand could best >'<■ supplied with an ado*!unto amount of vadium at a reasonable cost, and how jalicuL u tild -get- adequate treatment. established, one in each island, say at Faimerston North and Timani. the two could adequately serve both islands. Experts in the use ol radium would s,ii! he available in each centre, and from the two central institutes emanations could he sent to all parts of both islands. Cancer was the chid cause ot de.ith m New Zealand to-day. Every aspect of the dread disease, should, therefore, he studied, with especial reference to its cause.
