I’UIiSS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Mar-n J When Anthony Moglion, who was found guilty at Wanganui of manslaughter of Cordon John Genmiei! at 15nakilo, near Tailpipe, came up for sentence, .Mr 'l'. M. Wiiford, for accused, before sentence was passid, said that lie had a fcijling in cotunon with the Judge, that the wh lie stmy of Reilly's and Maori Jack’s actions on the day wa- most obscure. Since the trial ended lteillv had made a oonfessi.m that lie and Maori Jack were present all the time. The confession 'had been made to the gaoler at Wanganui on these lines:—“How is poor eld Andy getting on? How does lie take it. poor old chap.-' He is not alloeeiher to blame. Me were all three there at the- time, and we had a light aniong-t. ourself--. MTien I saw it was • retting to., hot I'm- me I pulled out and went i'll sleep and knew nothing more until morning.” This. Mr Wiiford said, was an absolute comradiction of Reilly’s evi-
iit'iico in Court. l!i- Honour iniimntoil that he woultl have to sentence the prisoner on the circumstances before the jury. If they at lot-wards were able to get further evidence they could put it before the powers that he. and they would decide whether there should lie a further inquirv. The Crown Prosecutor said that he thought he should have been notified regarding this evidence, and it should have been r eporteil to the Under-Sec-retnrv.
