SEVEN MAIL BAGS DESTROYED

[by telegraph—per press association.] NELSON. Feb. 27. Tho mail-car from Westport to Nelson was burned at Spooner’s Range late yesterday afternoon. A scrub lire in a gully quickly ran up the hillside blocking progress and cutting olf a retreat. The flames swept across the road and caught the car, which including seven mail hags ~ti the windward side, were destroyed. Fortllliateiv there was a small ■ patch “n the roadside previously burned where the passengers, numbering 16, escaped the flames. But for this, the consequencewould have been most serious.
