Tlie West land Chamber of Commerce is promoting a petition to the authorities asking for the extension of hours at the Hokitika telephone exchange. At present the hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The office does not open early enough for the train services and workmen leaving before the hour fixed, and the hour of closing is considered too soon. The petition asks that the telephone he open on week days from 7 a.ill. to midnight. Tf the petition is freely signed there is a likelihood of the request being conceded without any extra cost to subscribers.
