AUCKLAND, Fob. 21 Walter Vimviit, aged t>2, appeared at. the Police Court to-day charged that, oil February bill, at Auckland, he did unlawfully obtain from Herbert. i)orl Norris the sum of £220 by 10presenting that it was bing invested with a bookmaker at Auckland on Savoury in the Olutwe Hurdles Handicap, and on I'ralla in the Nolan Cup at the Egmont Mooting. Vincent pleaded “not guilty,’’ and reserved his defence, and was committed for trial. Hail was fixed, as before, at £2BO. A charge of theft by a- trick was withdrawn. Norris, a mincowuer of Rhodesia, arrived here on February sth. He gave evidence that the accused entered in his hotel smokeroom next morn-j ing, and told him he was an assistant trainer, and had had four wins out of nine starts. "Witness gave him a j cheque for £2O on Savoury, and j shortly afterwards, accused said it had Subsequenty, lie gave the ' accused a cheque for two hundred, and alter a while the accused left him.
HOTEL WORKERS. WELLINGTON, February 21. In the Hotel and Restraints’ dispute, a new record in Conciliation Council work was established, when, for the first time in the history of the Court, a complete agreement was arrived at between the parties before the Conciliation Commission. It was expected that the remaining clauses would he disposed of at the morning sitting. The employers’ representatives, however, reintroduced some matters which had been dealt with on the previous day, although agreement was reached. This prolonged the proceedings into the afternoon session. The last clause, the duration of the new award, was reached at 3.15 p.m., and a minute discussion fixed this at two
years. The President remarked that they were in a very satisfactory position, having reached a complete agreement, the first Dominion agreement in a trade to l>e made before a Conciliation Council in Now Zealand. He congratulated them most heartily upon such an excellent result. Great assistance had been given by both sides, and it was very gratifying. He congratulated booth parties on the result. Representatives of both parties thanked Afr Newton for his efforts. j
