BOY SCOUTS.

Recruiting fur the Wolf Cubs lias been going <m briskly during the past, few weeks and each Pack is now approaching its full strength of twentyfour hoys. Unite a mi in her of Cubs tire now fully eitiupped as regards uniform and local residents seem already to lie aware that the green and goal rap is the sign of a readiness to undertake ‘‘good turns" and to cultivate a smile that the heaviest, rain will not wash off. The enthusiasm of hoys oi this age is .sometimes a little overpowering, but the hand oi' youthful knights,-errant, are not to he denied, and Hokitika is being proved to be teeming with unexpected adventures.
The Wolf Cub brunch of the scout nan emeu i, was only launched shortly before the beginning oi the war. and d ua.s b<vu proven repeatedly that any normal man gifted with imagination ...... iiiimaur cau succcssially qualify aa cub-master. The cry of these young people, tor men to lead them cannot much longer remain unanswered. Feb. 22nd. is the birthday anniversary of Sir Robert Radon Rowell, and we are sure that Hokitika Scouts will not be backward in grateful good wisher, to one who has brought so much flesh interest ami joyousness in their lives. B.P. should he a proud man as he surveys to-day the world-wide movement which he has originated. Perhaps even more remarkable tiian the million and a-half voting men and hoy-, pledged to the seem ideal. who look to him as their Chiel hum every inhabited part of file globe, is that uay scout piiuciples and id: ah are gradually finding their way into every department of life. number of years ago Lord lio-.cbcrry declared that “A nation trained in the Boy .Seoul theory would ho an honour to mankind, and the greatest force the world has ever seen.” and what then seemed an impossible dream is rapidly coming true in real life. If is surely a cause for regret that New Zealand should he comparatively backward in the numbers. if not the quality of Roy Scouts: and the fault, most certainly does mil lie with the hoys.
