HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 15th
A special meeting of the Council was held at 7.30 o’clock to consider matters relating to finance etc-. There, wore prerent:—Messrs G. A. Perry (.Mayor). <’.. A. Wood. J. King. I). J. Evans, \Y. Jeffries, U. F. Poriiam. W. 1). Mackay. and G. Heinz. Apology wa.fi made for the absence of Messrs Lloyd and Coulson. ft was decided to resolve into committee of the whole to discuss the business before the meeting. In Committee the Treasurer submitted an estimated statement of receipts and expenditure for the balance ol the financial year, disclosing a debit balance of £770 at the end of the term. The .statement "as considered and various resolutions arrived at. It was resolved to recommend the Council in regard to various matters, itu hiding the imposition of a ten per tent penally on all rates outstanding at the end of the statutory term, and to sue for unpaid amounts; to have a list of payments of dog lax laid on the Council table ho m-i.eial information; to apply for a- revaluation of the Rorm.glt: to have le-cru- valued by the Town Cleik. and rents fixed al 5 pet cent on rim capital value; improved title to In* otfered presi u! holder.-, and tli<* Reserves Committee to nleei .Monday night to consider details : io employ two members of lie- permanent -tail on lean expenditure for the time being, ami to keep a close record of all work done by till* stall’ on loan account ; to complete the improvement to Hampden Sttoet railway crossing and attend to tb * w idening and improvement of Fitzlu ibert Street out of the grant from the IL ilway Department; to give the necessary attention to Weld Street, and to widen tile upper portion of Gibson Quay, with the grader; the kerbiug •i.i,l channelling of Gibson Quay to be deferred for the present, as not bole;* considered immediately urgent; to (a i seal a sort ion of Hevell Street between Stafford and Weld Streets; to continue the making of concrete pipes to the best advantage; to utilise beach ■ •ravel for road repairs in prefeieiiee to pit gravel; to purchase sanitary conveniences from the Exhibition stock; to defer consideration of the by-law suggested by the Health Department for the dsiposal of rubbish; to further review the financial position at the close of the financial year, and in subsequent years allow a fortnight's consideration for the annual estimates of receipts and expenditure before .striking the annual rate. The meeting rose at 9.110 p.m.
