TRADE WITH JAVA.

PUOCKESS OF XEUOTIATIONS. WELLINGTON, ' Jan. 30. Following investigations I>y the Auckland I mlustrial Association proposals were put lie lore that body by Jlr Van J)er Linde, of the Itoyal Packet- Navigation Company, and a letter was sent from the Xew Zealand Farmers’ Union to the Department of Industries and Commerce asking if anything further had boon done in the matter of sending a mission to the Xear East for the purpose of exploring the markets and exhibiting Xew Zealand produce. A reply has been received by the executive of the Xew Zealand Farmers’ Union from the Department and was rend at its- hrst meeting to-night. The reply stated that the matter liad been receiving considerable attention recently in view of .Mr \ an l)er Linde, who was managing director of one of the shipping companies trailing between the Xear East and Australia. The Hon \V. Stewart (Minister in charge of the Department of Industries and Commerce) was bringing Mr Van Dei Linde’s proposal before Cabinet and expected to he able to make an announcement shortly. Negotiations with Mr Van Her Linde would not necessarily mean that a mission would be unwarranted. In laet. if direct shipping was established through Mr Van Der Linde then it would be more than necessary for a mission to no to Java, and probably to .‘Singapore. wall a view to ascertaining the likely demand for Xew Zealand produce. Part of the mission’s v.ork woul.i also be to establish agencies and generally report upon the position from a Xew Zealand standpoint. It was resolve! that, a deputation should wait •nmm the Hon W. Downie Stewart- to discuss the guest: ion of subsidising a shipping line to the East.
