IUSTItALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. POLITICAL STRATEGY. WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 Not being satisfied with the Oil investigation alone, the Democratic members of the Congress promise a progressive investigation into various activities of the Republican administration. including the Slipping'Board and aircraft. The capital lias become a eiiv of investigations and rumoured scandals. The nation's legislative business lias stopped completely. The Republican Party chieftains hold midnight councils in an attempt to stem llie tide of public disapproval over the „il scandal, while the Democrats hold secret conclaves in an attempt to secure the groate-t possible political advantage from the situation. An interesting incident, in connection with the investigations of the oil scandal occurred to-day, when the Court dismissed an indictment against Crowell, began on December 30, 1922. Crowell successfully maintained that he merely obeyed the orders of Afr Raker, the then Secretary for War. Thus a scandal which had been promised u year ago never materialised.
