WELLINGTON, Jan. 2 6 A hid for freedom was made bv an arrested man named Arthur Paul I’olso.ti whilst ho was being conducted, with another man to the Central Police Station by Detectives Walker and Sinclair. The two men under arrest had been apprehended ;ii the Trentham rae-coiii-.o during the afternoon, and charged with vagrancy, having been caught allegedly conducting :i game of chance on the course. The detectives had conducted the men a- far as I.ambtoii station in the train, when suddenly, ns they alighted with their guard. Poison broke away ami made off down the platform. Detective Sinclair immediately made after him, and alter a chase succeeded in overtaking him —not, however, before the would-be escapee had led him over a rough route and caused him an injured “shin.” The runaway once more in safe custody, the two were put into a taxi and conducted straight to the police station, where they remained until called before a magistrate.
