Fresh hopes of a railway settlement have been raised by an interview by the Trades Union mediation committee with the railway managers, whereto was submitted a formula which it is understood the locomotive men’s executive previously approved. V'

The Emergency Committee of the Trade Union Congress is in continual session seeking a way out of the railway 1- deadlock. The present position is that the Company managers have been asked to give a guarantee that- there shall be some relaxation of the hardships which the locomotive men say' Swill he inflicted on their members. If this is done, Air Bromley’s union will lie asked to take a second ballot.

The Emergency Committee consulted Air Bromley and the Al'anagers.

Air Bromley made a speech at the second session of the conference between the railway managers and the trade unionists that lasted for five and a-half hongs. They adjourned till Monday.

Air Bromley is anxious that tho settlement shall make it clear that tho findings of the National Wages Board are not binding upon the miions.
