The ordinary meeting of the Westland County Council will he held on Tuesday next.
During rhe last few days some large hauls of flounders have been made in the vicinity of the mouth of the Arahuva river. The fish are in splendid order at. present.
The metal crushing plant at Kanieri is now in regular operation, and a considerable amount of material is being deposited on the main roads. It is hoped later to have portion of the Hokitika-Kanieri road scarified -and rolled, attention which, should place the section in first-class order.

Mrs C. J. Atkin, of Westport, received the sad news on Friday of the- death at- Morrinsville of her sister, Mrs Thomas Atkinson (nee Miss Minnie Lamont). Deceased was married only some 18 months ago.

At (Ireymouth yesterday, a youth was charged that at Bmnnerton on peer-ember 12, being a postal oflicer, he did steal one postal letter, to wit a U tter containing 17w. in postal notes, the property of the Postmaster-Oeneral Detective J. B. Young staled that he was not yet prepared to go on with tile charge, and applied for a further remand until February 4, which was granted, bail being again allowed.
The Westland A. and P. Association Show on the Hokitika racecourse is (.Hiking place to-day in cloudy weather. Judging was taking place this morn, ing and will be completed early this afternoon, and the awards will be published in to-morrow’s issue. The Show will be continued to-morrow (People’s Day) when a holiday will he observed in town, and a full afternoon of spurting events will be run off.

In connection with the two judging competitions for calves, one for youths and one for men, which takes place at tin; Show to-morrow, much interest is being shown. .Entries will be received at the Secretary's office at the show ground. The cattle judge- (Mr «L ItGreen, of Palmerston Ninth) at a time to be announced on the ground, will give a brief demonstration to the competitors on the points in judging a beast..
