On Saturday afternoon the howling green was found to lie fast and keen, a result of special attention given by the Vice-President. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by Mesdames Sherman and Stevenson.
The Greymouth Schools excursion arrived in Hokitika this morning at 10.30 a large numlior coming down, and including a gmxl many adults. Cass Souare and the Exhibition were tho most favored localities. The day was firm and verv hot.
The Greymouth Wa torsi dors’ picnic on Saturday was favored with a line day and proved very successful. It was notable that heavy rain fell at Greymouth as the train was leaving in the morning ami continued steadily until Kurnaru was passed, but there was no rain in Hokitika for the day, except an extremely light drizzle for a moment or two about lour o'clock. Cass Square proved a very popular rendezvous, and the large crowd appeared to have an enjoyable time. The excursion train left Hokitika about 7 o’clock, there being a delay of half an hour owing to ibe inward express from Christchurch running half an hour late.

Association’s Show takes place on the Hokitika racecourse to-morrow (Tuesday) afternoon, and will lie continued on Wednesday, which will he People’s Day. and for which the Mayor has proclaimed a public holiday. The wound hied severely, hut it is hoped no serious result will follow.
An impudent theft was committed at the Auckland Post Office on Saturday afternoon. While writing a telegram, a man put a. parcel containing a wicker bafket at his feet. As soon as he had handed in the message ho looked for hls» parcel, hut it had disappeared. The parcel was later discovered at the left luggage department of the Devonport Furry Company. The police were informed, with the result that, when another man claimed the parcel shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, he was arrested on a charge of theft.
