VAXCOUVKR, Jan. 23. The Australian Press Association tarns that the Xew York Market is ready to absorb 300.00!) rases of Australian and Xew Zealand butter at the present time, and to pay as high as 20d f.o.b. for it. A produce dealer from Sydney recently cabled Xew Zealand representatives offering Is Gd per lb. for 100,TOO eases for the Xew York market, hut he was unable to secure the same. The correspondent lias been informed that an offer lias been marie to purchase <IO,OOO Isjxos of Australasian butter at 21 cl per 11). e.i.f. The Australian Commissioner’s Xew York Office understands that this offer has been transmitted to Australia. The next ninety days represents an American “off” season, when Canadian, Scandinavian. Dutch and Siberian butter imports cease, and Australasian butter will find the readiest market. Dairy produce experts, moreover, maintain that Australasia could successfully create a profitable yearround butter market in America.

Tt is stated that despite the eight cents a lb. duty, and the long haul, Australsian butter, of 92 to 93 score or better, would find an unlimited demand bore, successfully competing against European and Canadian huttor throughout the year.

A reprosntative of the Dunne Produce Company .which last year imported 120.000 cases of Xew Zealand butter informed the correspondent that the lack of a direct line and frequent, regular sailings of refrigerated ships from Australasia to the United States works against the establishment of the Australasian butter market here. He declared that much Australsian butter is imported to America, via London. He advised Australasia to concentrate upon the American market. which would lie found highly profitable. Mr William Tavor, a foremost American authority upon dairy products stressed the importance of Australasia shipping to America a constant supply of the highest score butters, thus establishing a reputation,, and at tho same time securing the greatest revenue.
