THE RIGHI'2 OF WOMEN. —'■ .Received this day at 9.15 a.m.) LONDCkv January 21. “T am certain that if any man had done as much work for the party as Miss Bondfield. he would lmvo been a member of the Cabinet,” said Lady Astor, in an angry speech at a reccpi ion tendered to the women members „f the House of Commons by the Society for Equal Citizenship. Lady Astor'added that every woman in the country, irrespective of party had been hoping" that Miss Bondfield would lie a Cabinet Minister. Continuing, Lady Astor said:— “Me an all bitterly disappointed at the omission. It is a sign that women have still to fight againt the prejudice of the people. It is said that Miss Bondfield was omitted: because of the want of Parliamentary experience. I Know some Cabinet Ministers, whose preliminary experience is not to their credit.”
Miss Doreen Jewson (Labour member for Norwich) said that the Labour Party was really anxious to appoint women. She knew that Miss Bondfield did not want to enter the Cabinet. It v as a tremendous advance to have women in the Clovermnent and they all plight rejoice thereat.
