There was an excellent attendance for the ollicial opening of the Exhibition Flower Show at the Soldiers’ Hal! yesterday afternoon about 3.30 o'clock. Mr \Y. ,J. Butler, President of the Rriti-di and Intercolonial exhibition, was invited to open the show at the invitation of Mr F. Groulsky, Chairman oi the Floral Committee.

specially to tlio object of such .shows ho went on to my that tlio niodorn idoal home-even in the oily—could not do without its llowcrs. .No festival worthy of the name was eornplcte without floral decorations. Hospitals wnuld_ indeed he dreary without flower.- ill the wards and in the grounds. In this eonneetion ho was "lad to have the opportunity of acknowledging the magnificent and devoted work of Mr fleo. Davidson at the Westland Hospital. There, on all sides, were to he seen evidenees of liis constant, kindly and efficient work. Mr I’. H. Stewart (now re-visiting Mokiiika) placed the town under a de!)i; of gratitude hy rescuing Macnndrew Srpiare from a Mate of neglect, making it a beauty spot such as would rejoice the heart of Hr Macnndrew, who laboured in it so steadfastly and who is so affectionately remembered. Mr Carter's labour of love had made another small paradise el Hie grounds about the (*overnineiil Buildings, while M(-r- Boyd and Haile n> also Mr Keys, had done "nod work all round. The Beaut if,vino Society could m.t lie too heartily encouraged and applauded for its efforts in improvin'.'the town's surroundings, nor van the (.(forts and achievements of the- organisers of the splendid show before them lie too keenly appreciated for the exhibition was one of the ways of stirring uo interest in ibe most refined hot;!(it's of civilisation--the beautifying of our homes with flowers. In dosing Mr Butler said patrons
would find much to please and delight them in the show which would extend over two days, and he bad very -treat pleasure in now formally declaring the show open and wishing it the success it deserved to be. ('Applause!.
