The Exhibition continues to find popular favor, ’flic attendance during the day time yesterday was not large, I in many fresh faces were to be seen in the eveuues throughout the day, eri ■ tically examining the exhibits, and passing the usual measure ot praise on
t tie general display. At night the attendance grew substantially and may be described as large. Visitors were present from all parts, and the local ] cople were more in evidence. I lie special attract ion in the evening was the first appearance of the Miss l.ncy Cowan troupe of juveniles at the Orpheus Theatre.
The little Theatre at the Exhibition war crowded to ike doors for the Cowan troupe entertainment, and the patronage extended was well justified. It was a bright and interesting show with not a dull moment, and all the members of this talented company pleased the large audience. The little tots found special favor. Joan and Muriel were as well received as ever in their notable items. Little Kathleen Read proved to he the wonderful natural prodigy she was reported to be. She creates an atmosphere of her own. and rivets the attention of the audience. Every movement is natural and there is nothing forced. Some of her characterisation,s are 'just personal triumphs. She will he a great favorite all through the season here. The other members of the troupe all do well in their special work. They are clever, s-m, well earned the applause which was accorded them ,(> liberality. Of social interest. also was ihc appeuvnnes of their tutor, Miss Lucy Cowan Mi-s Cowan is a finished performer in all branches of elocution, and is very happy indeed in delineating character sketches. The detail intiodnced is appropriate always ami never overdone. Miss Cowan's numbers last evening were all received most heartily. The whole entertainment is a very bright one. It was enjoyed to the full by the audience. There were so many encores that tho second performance had to he eliminated. For to-night there will he an entire change of programme. when all the favorites will appear in new numbers. Miss Cowan
will also join the ranks of tlie entertainers. By special request little Joan Hughes will do “The Kid" (Jackie Coogant a sketch of tho popular film character which was written specially for Joan by Miss Cowan. Kathleen Read and the other talented members of the troupe will render special numbers, and the whole entertainment will be ■distinctly attractive. The idoor.s will open at 7.30. and the entertainment commence at 8 o'clock, finishing at 9.30. Tho seating accommodation being limited, patrons should attend early.
The Avro aeroplane flew south yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock under tho control of Captain Buckley. Dr. Teichelnuinn and Mr Havelock Williams, photographer of Timaru, were tho passengers. The flight was ois far as the Waiho Glacier, which was traversed from the air. and many photographs taken. The trip wa s quite a good one. Subseqently the flying machine alighted on the Okarito beach, too late on the tide to return last night. Captain Buckley is expected to return north to-day. The reports indicate that yesterday’s trip was enjryed greatly, and was quite a success Horn every point of view.
TO-NIGHT. TO Hokitika. Municipal Band will fender u special programme from the band stand in the Exhibition Buildings, commencing at 8 o’clock. In the Orpheus Theatre, commencing at 8 o’clock, tho clever juvenile troupe under the direction of Aliss Lucy Cownn will render its second programme. There will be an entire change, introducing new features. All the favorites will appear and delight the audience as before. COMING EVENTS. For to-morrow night tlie Exhibition Royal Orchestra will render a special programme from the hand stand, in the Exhibition Buildings commencing at 8 o'clock. On Saturday night it is expected the Greyinoutli Municipal Band will play a special programme in the Exhibition building.
Tne same night it is expected the Members of the Greymouth Competitions Society will give an entertaining programme in the Orpheus The-
All next week the Christchurch troupe of graceful girls organised by Mi,is Bessie MacDonald will occupy tin Orpheus Theatre, and render a dance leeital programme, new and captivating for a local audience. The troupe should have a very cordial reception. Next Friday week, the eve of the dosing of the Exhibition, there will ho a grand hall in the Soldiers’ Hall. Tickets for which the sale is limited, tv prevent overcrowding, are now on sale. The gathering is expected to be fully worthy the occasion from every point of view.
