As the result of a conference between the .Minister of .Marine, Jingi-lieer-in-C'liief, and the Harbour Board and its officials, an agreement was today reacheil with reference to problems arising in connection with the proposal modified harbour scheme. An essential feature of the alterations is the removal of the present groyne, and the const rind ion of a short breakwater running from the end ol the present groyne to an intersection of tlio wall of the proposed diversion, at v point one hundred and twenty feet below the high water mark. M hat is aimed at by the construction of this outer w all is to enable the seas to sweep the silt emerging from the diversion away from the harbour mouth, and Further, to provide a much larger inner basin I'o - wave cxpctision purposes. The Minister will consult the Crown Law Officer . w hetliei the proposed modified harbour can be built under the existing legislation, without further reference to the ratepayer.-..
