The day's play was full of surprises. one of the most notable being the double defeat of AV. Carswell, the veteran Taier: player and 11. P. Dobbs of St. Albans. The latter had come through the section play without a defeat, but in his first game yesterday went clown to At ylic by the wide margin of 31 to 3. Two games in the pairs competition were also played.
