From a level start, Borg soon had a short level, which he maintained, despite Charlton's great efforts, to 500 yards, when Charlton headed him. but the pair were level at 000 yards. Charlton then sloifly drew ahead. Sixty yards from homo Borg sprinted, and then lie fell away, while Charlton forged ahead, and won by 15 yards. Both swimmers were all out at the finish. Christie, SO yards away, was third. Griffiths also started. The time was 10.51 4-5, a new world’s record,
