WELLINGTON. Jnn. 15. The animal meeting of the Board of Science and Art was held to-day. The lion 11. J'\ Bollard welcomed the members and .said there warn much on record for which they deserved ilie* thanks of the community and the Government. Their work had been recognised by other countries. A stop in the right direction was the appointment of n Board to consider the liest means of preserving articles of Maori workmanship. He referred in appreciative terms to Sir Harold Beauchamp’s gift of a valuable property, the rents for which were to be devoted to providing funds for a national art gallery. The meeling endorsed these remarks. It was decided to urge the passing of a Bill for regulating the sale of gas in terms of calorific value. It was stated that Mr H. M. .Jones, of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, had in course of preparation a scheme which, it was hoped, would bring nearer to realisation the establishment of a national art gallery. The following committees were set up:—
