WEST .MINSTER GLEE SINGERS GRAND FAREWELL TO-.MORROW. Since the early days when Mr Hdwprd Branseombo 'lirsfc visited New Zealand with his Westminster Glee Singers, musical taste, has undergone many changes. Audiences are no longer content to listen to even the most beautiful compositions in the stereotyped manner of past years, and therefore it is interesting to note that the peiforrnances given by the Westminister Glee Singers at Sydney during their recent record season there, marked an epoch in the history of concert attractions. Of one concert the “Sydney Daily Telegraph” had the following to sav: "As soon as the final cadence ended the huge audience of .1000 gave vent to its delight in a spontaneous outburst of unrestrained enthusiasm and clearly demonstrated that the stolid conventional concert procedure has no place with the Westminsters.” The Company comes with a. completely new form of entertainment : new in its stage setting, new in its novel lighting, and grouping, and new in its music. Instead ol the formal hare platform, we now have an artistically arranged drawing room willi a decorative scheme of lighting, the artists picturesquely placed in a dozen different ways, sometimes emulating our forefathers who were wort to gather round the piano for their musical diversion, whilst here and there a soloist will be supported by a semi-in visible chorus of voices. Iheii is an intimacy, an old-world charm in this new presentation of concert programmes. which enhances 'lie interest in a truly magical way. and makes one wonder why we have been content, all these years, to listen to our music unaided by these delightful adjuncts. Of the Glee Singers’ repertoire it is sufficient to say that it has been entirely re-modelled. Infections gaiety, spontaneous humor, and exhilarating biilliancy arc the key notes, and these find ' their best expression in such pieces as the old comedy catches, “Would you know my Cecilias charms” and “Poor Thomas Bay”; operatic selections from •‘Carmen” "Pa.dinrei” and “Faust.” National folk’'songs such as “The Cruiskecn Fawn” (IrislD. "The Nells ol Aberdovev” (Welsh). “The Girl 1 Left Behind Me” (English), and “-Blister Mac Allister” (Scotch), together with .erics of vocal dances and humorous ■ pinrtoltes.
